Dental Implants

A dental implant is a biocompatible post placed in the jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth. With a crown on top, it restores both chewing function and appearance.

What is it?

Implants are usually made of titanium or a titanium alloy that fuses with the bone (osseointegration). Once integrated, the implant serves as a stable base for a crown, bridge or denture.

Because neighbouring teeth do not need to be prepared, implants help preserve healthy tissue when a single tooth is missing. Suitability depends on bone volume, general health and oral hygiene.

The process

  1. Examination and planning

Your mouth and bone are assessed with a clinical examination and X-rays; if a panoramic X-ray is needed, we will refer you for one. The treatment plan is made together with you.

  2. Placing the implant

The implant is placed in the jawbone under local anaesthesia by the oral and maxillofacial surgeon we work with, who also provides bone support where needed. The duration depends on the number of implants.

  3. Healing

A healing period of usually a few months allows the implant to integrate with the bone; temporary solutions can be provided at our clinic meanwhile.

  4. Restoration

After healing, impressions are taken at our clinic and a crown, bridge or denture is made, fitted and checked on the implant.

  5. Check-ups

Regular check-ups at our clinic and good oral hygiene help keep the implant healthy for many years.

Who is it for?

  • Adults who have lost one or more teeth
  • People who want a removable denture to be more stable
  • Patients with sufficient bone support, or where it can be provided
  • Patients whose general health allows a surgical procedure

Frequently asked questions

How long does implant treatment take?

It depends on the bone and the treatment plan. There is usually a healing period of a few months between placement and the final restoration.

Will I feel pain during the procedure?

The procedure is carried out under local anaesthesia. You will be advised on managing any sensitivity afterwards.

Can everyone have implants?

Suitability is decided at the examination after assessing bone volume, general health and oral hygiene.

How do I care for an implant?

Like natural teeth: regular brushing, interdental cleaning and periodic check-ups.

Who places the implant?

Implants are placed by the oral and maxillofacial surgeon we work with. The examination and planning, temporary solutions during healing, the crown, bridge or denture on the implant, and check-ups are carried out at our clinic.
